Columbus Weekend

Saturday of Columbus weekend we were still feeling a little down; but cabin fever was taking hold, so we drove out to Theodore Roosevelt Island on the Potomac across from the Lincoln Memorial. Aside from the statue and fountains, and Route 66 going over the south end, this island is woods and marshes.
We saw 3 deer, a turtle, lots of birds, lots of bugs, and enjoyed a peanut butter and jelly picnic. We walked just a bit more than a mile around the main trails and then headed home. The deer were pretty tame, as you can see here.
And here's Emma, reaching. She likes ice cream. She'll reach for any plate, bowl, or glass within her reach.
Monday, Columbus day, we drove out to Annapolis and visited a beach on the Chesapeake Bay. We've been here 2 1/2 years and still hadn't seen the Chesapeake by daylight. Yikes. Of course I couldn't keep from getting into the bay. There's something magnetic about tidal water and me. It was cold. The photos of that outing are on Clinton's phone, so I can't post them right now. We were there maybe an hour and then headed back, still trying to overcome our yucky colds.
