When I iron, I go into pensive mode. Ironing is a terrific brain activity for me, though not a good activity for getting my mind off of whatever might be bothering me. Today as I was ironing, I thought of Alisha who taught me to iron. She wasn't my first teacher; just my most passionate.
I use a squeaky old heavy ironing board, because when I went to Target with my wedding gift cards to buy household goods, none of the ironing boards in stock would have satisfied Alisha's rigid standards; they all had things on the flat end for storing your iron or hanging your ironing board.
The flat end is the business end; the pointy end is for the occasional accessory.
Collar, yoke, sleeve, sleeve, front, back, front.
Most people do it wrong, as evidenced by the alarming number of ironing boards sold with junk hanging in the way of the business end.
Collar, yoke, sleeve, sleeve, front, back, front.
For somebody who was not overly tidy (You know I love you even if I speak truth) she was particular about the ironing. Didn't iron a lot; but when she did, it was crisp.
Thanks Alisha, I'd never have been this way without you.
So my loyal readers, who taught you to iron?

I think that's the nicest way anyone has ever put it...but yes I am definitely NOT overly tidy.
The flat end is obviously for business. Crazy put stuff at the end people! Don't they know anything? :D
My mama taught me the ironing technique. She taught me well, even if I don't do it as often as I should for Will.
Let's get this part said... I hate to iron. But, I do feel like I do a decent job thanks to my mother who irons everything.
Okay, I do the collar, yoke, sleeve, sleeve ... part, but how do you iron on the big fat end of the ironing board?
I learned to iron from my momma ... 5 cents for a hankie and 25 for a pillowcase. Shirts came later and I think change was no longer passed out as incentive!
more space, less shifting. And don't call it "fat" or you'll hurt it's feelings.
collar, yoke, sleeve, sleeve, front, back, front. Same person as taught Alisha... though obviously I never became quite as passionate about ironing as Alisha or you would have learned it from me! But I do share the passion of the "business end" of the board. I've never understood how people could use those wall hanging kinds where the flat end is attached to a WALL!!???!?!!?!?!?!!? Seriously!
The United States Marine Corps. Never thought a marine would be caught dead ironing, would you, but we all learned and learned to do it well
Ha, ha, ha!!!! Thanks for letting me reminisce and get a good chuckle. Alisha, you are a great ironer. This one is for Michelle though: I iron far less often and far fewer items than I did in school. And I do fold those "other things" now. I guess you rubbed off!
I'm self-taught, which is why I must be the only one to ask...
What the heck is the yoke???
