We've spent some time the last 3 years in search of our own home.

We saw this one on New Years Eve; but there was at least one offer and a deadline for "best and final" offers of Dec 29. We pursued a different house that turned out to be more expensive than it was worth.
A week later, we found that the offer on this didn't look like it was going to hold, so we took another look and offered.

Doesn't that roof line scream, "1972"?

The seller countered. We countered back. They countered. We accepted.
Tuesday was our inspection, and the thorough inspector noted symptoms that might indicate a structural problem.

The inside is full of redeeming features. I really do like this kitchen.

Today we met a structural engineer at the house. He looked over the evidence of concern and said it wasn't structural problems, just a 40-year old house behaving normally. No cracking. No overburdened cantilever. No major design flaw. No unduly shoddy construction shortcuts.

Not ALL the features are gorgeous. But we can make some improvements.

Now we go to the appraisal and underwriting. This is new territory for us. We haven't made it past the inspection before. We've only made it to inspections once, on the day we brought Emma home from the hospital.
