Everyone should be a young woman

The world population would be severely unbalanced if everyone was a young woman; but then everyone could have been in on Saturday Night's meeting.

In the LDS church, every spring and fall there is a general church conference that is broadcast to members and friends around the world. The prophet and the twelve living apostles speak. About a week before this conference, in the spring, there is a meeting specifically for the girls aged 12-18. My current church assignment is to work with young women, so I got to attend.

I learned about deep beauty. This is beauty that doesn't wash off, can't be put on in the morning, can't be surgically obtained, doesn't fade with age and time, isn't passed down genetically, doesn't adhere to one race or gender over another, and can't be bought or sold. Deep beauty that Elaine S. Dalton talked about comes from living a virtuous life of service, faith, love, and righteousness.

I learned about good stories the world over that begin "Once Upon a Time," and end with "And they lived happily ever after." In each good story, the hero or heroine must overcome difficult circumstances. We, too, must overcome difficult circumstances. Without difficulties, there is no triumph. What would be the triumph in finishing, if a marathon did not push a runner to the limits of physical capabilities? How we deal with our circumstances determines our ending; not the circumstances themselves.

This was a great meeting.

The girls in the church are encouraged to participate in a program of goals called personal progress. As a youth leader, I'm also supposed to do this. I invited my mother to work with me on personal progress, and I'm delighted that she accepted. My sister also works with the young women and we are going to work all together. I'm very happy about this

I haven't had a chance to see the broadcast yet (DVR's though). Among other things, my nephew went to the temple Saturday and the whole day was shot ... but I'm looking forward to naptime today to see it. I've heard fabulous things.

Anyway, I'm working on my Personal Progress, too! It will be my third time earning it and I'm excited--I'm getting close! It can be an amazing program if it is done with the right spirit!

And I didn't know you worked with the YW. What's your calling?

I didn't get to see the broadcast, but I'll have to see if I can find it. Awesome.
