Valentines Heart

Was it fitting that Lizzy had a cardiology follow-up appointment on Valentines Day?

The doctor said we can sell her for full price, now. I think we'll keep her.

Where there was a PDA, you can see shadows of the two coils in the echocardiogram. The ASD is completely patched, and no oxygenated blood is seeping through, which means the tissues are knitting into the device properly. To cap it off, the enlarged ventricle is shrinking. The cardiologist said that that's something they hope for, but don't always see.

We asked about when she can get into strenuous activity. The doctor advised waiting until she's older than 18 for bungee jumping; but that has nothing to do with her heart. He gave her a green light for normal life, including swimming lessons which will start on Friday.

She'll keep taking aspirin for another 5 months, at which time she should have another follow-up appointment. When that goes well, the doc says, we'll probably get a reminder card in about 3 or 4 years to come in for a check-up.
