A visit to the grounds of the Palmyra temple.
In our church, temples are used midweek and not on Sundays. They are holy places where, among other things, we are married.

and a 40-minute drive to Fayette to see the Peter Whitmer farm.

After visiting the Whitmer farm, we got ice cream, headed for Aunt Pat's to relax some, and then went for real New York Pizza from Mark's Pizzeria.
What's the big deal about the Peter Whitmer Farm?
April 6, 1830, our Church was officially organized. According to the laws of New York at the time, an official church needed 6 founding members. Several dozen people gathered in this log house for the organization.
Though I know the names of these places, it's really cool to see what it looked like. It gives a little perspective to put my Goodyears on paved two-lane highways between these sites and try to envision trekking back and forth, hiding from thugs, trying to make a living, trying to raise a family, and spending the effort and time required to preach, translate, and lead a foundling religion... or to be a member of a young and somewhat unpopular religion in this beautiful area - when Goodyears and two-lane highways were not even a dream yet.
