Oklahoma!

The road from Laramie to Cheyenne was closed, so a nice man in the hotel lobby suggested another route to Fort Collins that effectively cut off an hour of driving and bypassed some hilly, snowy, closed road. Yippeee! Cutting time and miles off is a good thing.

The road through Colorado was fast, uneventful, and warm. Sun shined in our truck and the snow and ice melted off. We stopped for lunch just a few miles before Kansas and filled up the tank. And then we got back on the Eastward road.

There is nothing in Kansas. One long ribbon of road cuts through... Kansas. Warm, sunshine, grass, and about every 12 miles there is a billboard advertizing 5-legged cattle or world's largest gopher.

As the sun set, the clouds rolled in. We had rain, wind, lightning, thunder, and lots of it.
This slowed our progress significantly. We arrived in stillwater amidst a wondrous natural light show sometime after midnight and are holed up in Oklahoma for the day.

We plan to play with Lizzy's cousins and regroup for the next leg of our journey.

Miranda,
Nothing in Kansas? I beg to differ! We've got the World’s LARGEST ball of twine, and that 5-legged cow museum I hear is pretty dang cool. Did you pass through Abilene and see teh Chisolm Trail and Ike's Library/Museum and get an 'I Like Ike' button?

Hey, what do you MEAN 'NOTHING in KS'???---Only an old companion who has been bugging you to stop by the wheat state for over six years now : ) Next time you pass through we'll have to synchronize our sundials and rendezvous at the world's largest prairie dog.

In any case, I'm glad you were kept safe from the tornados, this week has been exceptionally bad.

Best of luck with the move, the DC experience and with everything! Thanks for the blog . . . it's great! Stay in touch!
Poka!
